The Bonsai starter trees are gaining popularity all over America. The art of Bonsai first started in Japan. The word "Bonsai," means a "tree in a tray" which is a combination of the word "Bon" (tray) and "Sai" (tree).

It is necessary to be able to differentiate the types of bonsai starter trees that can be used and the proper way to plant them.

You could go with the Japanese juniper for its stunning foliage and lovely branches. You will have to ensure that the bonsai starter trees get adequate moisture and sunlight. The Japanese juniper grows well in cold temperatures. The bonsai can be planted in ceramic pots and perched on top of the entrance gates or arches.

Another ideal bonsai starter tree would be the Japanese red maple. The seeds that are spread on the ground take long to grow from mere saplings to its full size. They need proper caring. The foliage on the tree trunk turns a brilliant red in fall and enhances the look of your garden.

You can pick up a Sea grape to turn into an amazing bonsai. You will have to trim the leaves, because they are very big, to the desired shape.

Try growing a Chinese elm. This type of tree can grow up to a height of 8 to 10 inches and is preferably planted indoors. However you can grow the Chinese elm in the garden. They grow well in winter and should not be exposed to direct sunlight.

You can opt for the Brazilian bonsai trees, which grow up to nearly 15 inches in height, or the Himalayan cedar.

Always trim the extra dry leaves and the tree trunks and use a good pesticide if you notice any insects on the bonsai starter trees.
